From Roundhay to Beirut and Bangkok, it’s a busy and exciting time for the San Carlo Group as we prepare to open San Carlo’s Flying Pizza at Roundhay in Leeds and two new Signor Sassi restaurants overseas.

Set to be a super-glamorous addition, Signor Sassi Bangkok will occupy the 37th floor of the luxury Anantara Hotel in Sathorn, the heart of the city’s cosmopolitan business and shopping district. Signor Sassi Bangkok is set to open in October and will feature open air dining and private dining in a glass wine vault.

Having undergone massive regeneration, Beirut is being restored to its former glory and is being tipped as one of the world’s top hotspots. Signor Sassi Beirut is set to open late August. The stunning 4,000sqft restaurant occupies a prime location overlooking the stunning new marina, next door to the Four Seasons Hotel.

San Carlo’s Flying Pizza (formerly known as Flying Pizza) has been a labour of love for the San Carlo Group and its owners. Once the chosen haunt of celebrities, sports stars and the movers and shakers of Leeds society; the restaurant had fallen upon hard times. San Carlo Group bought the restaurant out of administration and, following a lavish rebuild and refurbishment are set to throw open the doors to our first suburban restaurant this month. An exciting new menu features the best dishes from our San Carlo, Signor Sassi and Cicchetti restaurants and some old Flying Pizza favourites too.  Watch this space for more news on San Carlo’s Flying Pizza. Fresh from launching her solo career with a stunning performance at the Echo Arena, former Girls Aloud star Nicola Roberts dropped in to San Carlo on Castle Street, Liverpool for lunch with friends and family. The striking star left the restaurant to the glee of waiting admirers and photographers. We wish Nicola success in her solo career and hope to welcome her again soon.

 

Francesco Guarracino, Italian star chef at San Carlo Cicchetti in Manchester created a unique, spectacular dish for Father’s Day which proved a tasty hit with diners.

The son of a revered two-star Michelin chef, as a six year old at home in Sorrento, Francesco would look on mesmerised as his father created a sweet pepper, seafood and pasta dish which would go on to be the inspiration for this Father’s Day  dish.

A riot of colour and flavour, Francesco gave the original dish a San Carlo Cicchetti signature modern twist, flying in the key components – ricotta from a small village in Sardinia, mussels, prawns and calamari, red and yellow sweet long peppers from Rome and air dried Paccheri pasta from Vesuvius and instead of mixing them all together, he separated and concentrated them.

The special pasta was stuffed with ricotta and seafood and tied with leeks and the peppers were roasted and blended to produce a pure sauce.

This month saw the launch of San Carlo Cicchetti’s new Spring/Summer menu. Packed full of the freshest, finest seasonal ingredients direct from Italy and expertly crafted by our star chefs; new dishes feature across the entire menu – from soup to crostini to salads, pasta, fish, meat, bread and desserts.  Colourful and light, seasonal delights include pea and prosciutto soup, carpaccio of salmon with pink peppercorns, spaghettini with prawns, Italian wild asparagus, garlic and chilli and crab salad with Sicilian orange.

We invited the region’s toughest food critics and lifestyle press to sample the new dishes and are delighted to say they loved it. Here’s what The Natter’s Debbie Manley said: “Relax, take your time, enjoy the atmosphere of a cicchetti bar in Venice. By the end of this meal, one of the best we’d ever tasted, we were seriously thinking of marrying the chef!”

San Carlo Leicester brought a little bit of glorious Tuscany to the city when it hosted its second Giro D’Italia (tour of Italy) evening.  Proving hugely popular, again a full house enjoyed a special Tuscany-influenced four-course menu, wines and live jazz music.

There will be a Giro D’Italia evening every first Tuesday of the month, each comprising a carefully constructed menu designed to bring authentic dishes from across Italy, to Leicester. Booking is strongly advised, to reserve a table,

We’re delighted to announce our latest restaurant; the iconic Flying Pizza in Roundhay, Leeds, is now part of the San Carlo Group.

A hugely popular restaurant for more than 35 years, during the 90’s Flying Pizza was the chosen haunt for local celebrities and high profile diners across the region.  Sadly the restaurant had lost its sparkle and was facing closure.

Now part of the San Carlo Group, we have retained the name Flying Pizza and have pledged to restore the restaurant to its former glory. Flying Pizza remains open for business and will undergo a lavish refurbishment and updated menus; our intention is to give it back its heart. We’ll keep you posted on news and hope that you’ll come and visit Flying Pizza soon.

Congratulations to the team at San Carlo Manchester, the restaurant has been officially named as Britain’s coolest restaurant in a top awards ceremony.

The King Street West restaurant is proud to have beaten off stiff competition from rivals across the UK, including London’s Nobu Berkley and Hakkasan to scoop the top accolade.

Regular diners will know the restaurant offers an unrivalled atmosphere, great authentic food and attracts a host of loyal diners including celebrities, sports stars and even celebrity chefs.  Michelin starred chef Marco Pierre White recently sang our praises in an interview with the Manchester Evening News saying that when he’s in the city “I tend to go to San Carlo. It is a great vibe there; they spoil you; so they deserve all of their success.” Praise we were thrilled to receive.

The 17 judges, including writers, industry figureheads, and event organisers selected the top ten coolest venues in the UK based on their charisma, originality, style, innovation, sex appeal, authenticity, aspiration, and uniqueness.

San Carlo Group’s star chef Francesco Guarracino drew the crowds when he demonstrated his skills at the Northern Restaurant and Bar Show at Manchester Central exhibition centre.

Francesco took to the stage in the culinary theatre to show the audience his tips on how to make a special San Carlo seafood dish.  A hit with the crowds and aspiring young chefs, Francesco is the son of a two star Michelin chef and his skill and passion for Italian dining were crafted under the one and only Gualtiero Marchesi in Milan. Francesco went on to become the winner of the Italian Federation of Chef’s ‘Best Chef Under 40’ before becoming a member of the Italian Michelin team. Now flourishing at the helm of Manchester’s high profile San Carlo restaurants, Francesco’s philosophy remains ‘ingredients are king’.
